Hazmat Response Drill at Dozier-Libbey Medical High School in Antioch

On April 18, a multi-agency Hazardous Materials Drill (HAZMAT) occurred in the City of Antioch at Dozier-Libbey Medical High School. Units responded to a report of an unknown substance in the gymnasium with multiple victims.

Students from Dozier-Libbey High School played the part of “victim” for responding agencies which included Contra Costa County Hazmat (Contra Costa Health Services), Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, and the Richmond Fire Department. AMR also participated.

The drill included a decontamination area, triage area, and staging area. The County plans on holding a quarterly drill to continue training and improving response. The drill also allowed students from the high school to get an up close demonstration and talk with both firefighters and county hazmat.
